In February 2018, Democratic candidate Catalina Cruz announced her candidacy for Francisco Moya’s vacated position on the New York State Assembly’s District 39.
Designer Cybele Grandjean was part of a volunteers’ team to help her getting elected. Together with Theresa Canning Zast, she designed “a visual identity that reflected both Catalina’s personality and the diversity of her constituents”. Something that community members could easily participate in.
They used several styles of Grotzec by Mário Feliciano as the main typeface and the GT America family as its companion. On Cruz’ website, GT America Mono and some Times New Roman are also found.
Eventually, Catalina Cruz was sworn in on 27 January 2019.
