Spin-O-Rama S-88 (1962)
In 1962, Puerto Rican pianist and bandleader Norosbaldo “Noro” Morales (1912–1964) released an album named Morales Plays Latin Favorites on Spin-O-Rama Records. The cover shows an upright calligraphic face that was available from Filmotype as Zingo. The same face also appears in PLINC’s Alphabet Thesaurus Vol. 2 (1965) as “original handlettered design” under the name Wycliffe. It’s not clear which came first, or whether one of them is a knockoff. It could also be that the lettering artist licensed the design twice. Zingo/Wycliffe here is used in all caps.
Two years later, Wyncote released an album with the same title, but a different track list. The cover of this release uses Latin Wide for the “Latin Favorites”.
