On 27 June, Doxa Esta and Section26 present a gig by Jorge Elbrecht at Le Zorba, Paris, with support from Suoni Sognati. The posters for the online promotion were designed by Pauline Nuñez. For the names of the acts, she used Weiß-Initialen II, aka Weiss Initials No. 2. This set of lapidary caps was designed by Emil Rudolf Weiß and issued by the Bauer foundry in 1931. Nuñez didn’t use any of the available digital interpretations, but instead opted for the original and worked with letterforms cut from a scanned specimen. Extra props for using both forms of E!

The Weiss Initials are paired with Florentine, another face with an incised look. It originated in the late 19th century design at the Boston-based Dickinson Type Foundery and appears to be inspired by 15th century lettering from Florence, cf. Beata, Donatello, Ghiberti, or ER Canto. The smaller elements are set in Century Schoolbook Italic and Venus Extended. The latter is also derived from a scan and was artificially thinned.
