Frida: un mexicano differente

We are Leo and Gina, or Gina and Leo, a couple of Mexicans who love the good life, good food, animals, family, castells, and some cold beers in the square. We met studying cooking in Mexico a … (What does that matter …?) few years ago. At the end of our studies we had the opportunity to continue training here in Europe and we launched into adventure. We knew that Catalonia was a very powerful gastronomically speaking area, and through an acquaintance we arrived in Tarragona.

Somos Leo y Gina, o Gina y Leo, una pareja de Mexicanos amantes de la buena vida, la buena comida, los animales, la familia, los castells, y unas cervezas bien frías en la plaza. Nos conocimos estudiando cocina en Mexico hace… (Que importa eso…?) unos cuantos años. Al acabar nuestros estudios tuvimos la oportunidad de continuar formándonos acá en Europa y nos lazamos a la aventura. Sabíamos que Cataluña era una zona muy potente gastronómicamente hablando, y por medio de un conocido llegamos a Tarragona.

Restaurant Frida uses Laura Meseguer’s connected script Magasin for the shop front of their restaurant. Magasin, fueled by Meseguer’s interest in copperplate calligraphy, started out as a lettering for a logo. Its bold and upright strokes are connected by delicate yet rigid rounded curves. Expanding the lettering to a typeface, a set of four construction principles was defined, resulting in “not your average script font’ – a perfect briefing for finding a typeface for a shop front.
