Épinal prints were made at Imagerie d’Épinal, a printing house founded in 1796 in Épinal (France). They are rendered in bright sharp colors thanks to the mechanical aquatype process. This French machine from the beginning of the 20th century replaced the hand stencil method to produce large series.
The photos shown here are from a series of sheet music probably printed in the 1980s. The fonts in use include Vendôme (1952), ITC Barcelona (1981), and ITC Souvenir (1970).
