The Flight of the Eagle movie poster
Originally released as Ingenjör Andrées luftfärd in 1982, this movie about a failed attempt to travel across the North Pole with a hydrogen balloon was published under different names and with different posters in the 1980s. In the United States, the movie was released as The Flight of the Eagle in 1983.
This U.S. One Sheet pairs three contemporary versions of typefaces that were available in the period of the travel attempt (1897). The movie titles is set in Staudel Xenotype P, inspired by a face of obscure origin. Some sources mention it originated at the Belgium-based Fonderie typographique Van Loey-Nouri. Solotype, who digitised the design as Moulin Rouge & Welcome , suggest that the design “came from a shop near Munich, Germany, and was a very poor proof with no font name on it.” The version used here was offered by Photo-Lettering, Inc. in their Art Nouveau Xenotypes 1895–1905 (1962).
Most other text uses ITC Korinna (1974), a revival of Corinna (Berthold, 1904). The top line is set in ITC Cheltenham (1975), based on the original design from ATF (1896).
