Phil Martin’s Jolly Roger in use on the cover of a live record by Clifton Chenier (1925–1987), also known as the King of Zydeco. Design by Wayne Pope, with a photograph by Chris Strachwitz.

Originally designed in 1970 for Martin’s Alphabet Innovations, Jolly Roger was digitized in 2003 by Steve Jackaman for Red Rooster. In an interview conducted by Mark Simonson in 2004, Martin mentioned that he considers Jolly Roger his most original design, alongside Introspect.
