MGD Rotter is a monospace grotesque based on an early cut of Akzidenz-Grotesk as cast by the Bauer foundry, Frankfurt. The typeface stems from a publication by Max Rotter (b. 1881), a Swiss architect and pacifist. Rotter published manifestos calling for a world without borders, a world republic, and world language.
As a Hong Kong born, Australian designer, based in New York City it seems appropriate to use a font derived from such global thinking.
Body copy and captions are set in Lunchtype 22, a freely available open-source font started by Wetterstrand as a lunch break experiment.
