For a long time car design was considered to be anonymous, the designers stood in the shadow of the perception of the brand, even though their designs can be found on the roads in millions. “Designing Motion” maps the development of car design in the context of industrial design and captures the social history of a profession—based on a comprehensive introduction and the career biographies of over 200 selected designers who contributed to the design of cars ins the USA, Europe, and Japan between 1890 and 1990. The diversity of shapes is evident from many pictures.

The book cover is all set in the geometric Avenir (designed by Adrian Frutiger in 1988), concisely combined with a Ford Thunderbird (1955), a Renault R8 (1964), and a Citroën GS (1978).

The interior pages of the book are designed by the author Marcus Caspers.
