This use reveals the downside of having chunky protruding serifs (e.g. to the left of b) and especially a long flag in r, as it is the case in Zaft. When they coincide in a word like “Marbod”, the result is a disturbing gap: Mar bod. I would have tried trimming the r, and maybe also dropping the top (left) serif of b, in order to achieve a more even spacing.
This typeface is also available as Zaft², with Céline Hurka. It features styles in two variations (A, B and C) but is infused with the vibes of the late 1960s/early 1970s and the reverse contrast style.
Thanks, Jay! WT Zaft² now has an entry in the Fonts In Use database.
I’m pleased to see that this spinoff addresses the spacing issues I had niggled about: It comes with contextual alternates (feature code by Rutherford Craze).
Apropos: The original Zaft (now?) has contextual ligatures “which form rounded connections between mirroring vertices” and mitigate the issue.
