The third PBS ident was used from 1984 to 1989. The logo was principally developed by Tom Geismar of Chermayeff & Geismar. Along with a redesign of Herb Lubalin’s 1971 “everyman” symbol, ITC Avant Garde Gothic was replaced with its slab serif brother, ITC Lubalin Graph. Read and see more on Container List.

I really love to see the PBS 1984 identity with the 1971 font.

  2. ITC Lubalin Graph is 1974, actually. Lubalin’s person mark was from 1971.
