An outstanding example of “cover on cover”, acknowledging the fragmented and composite nature of historiography. Keith Godard’s jacket design featuring Univers 67, or Condensed Bold, for the first edition of Stories from the Sixties. A collection of stories edited and with a preface by Stanley Elkin, with contributions by John Barth, Saul Bellow, Hortense Calisher, Alfred Chester, Robert Coover, Daniel Curley, William Gass, Albert Lebowitz, Leonard Michaels, Barton Midwood, Flannery O’Connor, Tillie Olsen, Barry Targan, Peter Taylor, and John Updike. Published by Doubleday in 1971.
