A-side “Mercy, Mercy Me” was the second single of What’s Going On. Marvin Gaye wrote and produced the song which saw almost as much success as the title track. The saxophone solo is played by Wild Bill Moore. One of Bob Babbitt’s most famous credits as Motown staff bassist James Jamerson wasn’t present for the recording.

The typeface is Reiner Laich’s Oriente which had been issued by Berthold Fototypes shortly before.
