Shop front of Rudolf Schönau, master goldsmith in Hamburg-Harburg, documented by Monsieur Adrien in June 2020.

The script is Forelle Auszeichnung, the bold weight of a typeface designed by Erich Mollowitz and issued in 1936. Forelle was the name used by Weber. The local foundry of Trennert in Hamburg-Altona carried the same design under the name Rheingold. Here it is used with a golden contour and paired with caps from Futura.

  1. Fun trivia: Weber’s specimen for Forelle Auszeichnung includes the lines Wertbeständiger Schmuck / Goldschmiedewerkstatt Zerrath (“Jewelry of lasting value / goldsmith workshop Zerrath”).
