The Atavist Magazine publishes one longform, deeply reported nonfiction story each month with a custom design. The July 2020 issue is about a group of Black mothers in 1950s small-town Ohio who spent two years marching every day in a battle to integrate the local schools.

Bayard from Vocal —named after civil rights leader Bayard Rustin and inspired by protest signs created for the 1963 March on Washington—was used for display copy, with Crimson Pro (by Jacques Le Bailly) for the subtitle and Crimson Text (Sebastian Kosch) for body copy.
