Lots of big bichromatic caps from Optex (Letraset, 1970) on the posters for the Easter Rock Festival organized by Mama Concerts in 1977. The secondary typeface used for date and venue is Albert Boton’s Chinon (Mecanorma, 1972).

The festival stopped in four German cities; Offenbach (Stadthalle, 7 April), Cologne (Sporthalle, 9 April), Nuremberg (Messehalle, 10 April), and Ludwigshafen (Eberthalle, 11 April). The lineup included Black Sabbath, The Ian Gillan Band, AC/DC, and Doctors Of Madness. On some days, they were supported by Caravan, John McLaughlin’s Shakti, and Jane.

The tickets used stacked-and-justified Optex, too, here with green and red letters. The small print is set in Helvetica.

I was at this fest. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Is it possible to get a copy of the concert poster?

  2. Hi Mike, nice to hear from you! We don’t have any of these items for sale, but a copy of the poster from Offenbach shown at the top is currently available for sale on eBay.

  3. I was at the April 7 Offenbach show and still have the ticket and poster. I also have 35mm slides of the show in storage.  My ears were still ringing the next day.  BS and AC/DC’s performance are both available on youtube.
