Temperatures is an occasional publication about artists using clay.
The logo is an indirect use of the Turtle typeface. Several years back, designer Lauren Francescone came across a vintage poster that was posted on the wall of the Old Town Bar and Restaurant in Manhattan. It featured the logo of the photo agency Sygma, which uses Turtle, a 1970s typeface by Letraset (see also the dedicated post about the Sygma logo). Her wordmark for Temperatures references this specimen for the letters s, m and a. All other glyphs were reverse-engineered.
Volume 1 is a collaboration between Julie Goll, Vanessa Kwan, and Lauren Francescone. For over a year, Goll lived in the home of deceased ceramicist Eva Moshack. Her resulting body of written and sculptural work is reprinted in TEMPERATURES for the first time. Kwan responds in a parallel essay on intergenerational relationships, ghosts, and the paranormal.
This risograph edition of 200 was printed in Vancouver at Moniker Press; 24 pages, saddle-stitched, 7⅝×10 in.
