A matchup between league-leading teams from major television markets (the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics) got a special promo video last week that aired on ABC, ESPN, NBA TV, and online. The big names were set in big lights, using UNDA Circle. It’s a long shot, but I wonder if the creators of this solid 30-second spot for NBA Saturday Primetime, an ESPN/ABC broadcast series, were influenced by ABC’s historical promotional films — specifically the “Funshine Saturday” title from ABC’s 1974 Fall Preview which features Chicago (MN), another lightbulb typeface.
