Gehen in der Wüste by Otl Aicher
In 1982 Otl Aicher published the book gehen in der wüste (“walking in the desert”) with S. Fischer.
What began just as a trip, with the focus of producing an exhibition, ended up in a book. Otl Aicher got focused during this trip, with his son and some friends, on forms, shapes, structures and textures of the dunes. This book is a chronicle of this trip across the Sahara desert.
As the cover page shows, the images are a splendid collection of sand shapes in a beautiful chromatic range. The book is a selection of yellowish and orange shades from this latitude. Those colours build some kind of structure which is neatly organized in the book.
The cover and main titles of the book make use of Univers. The text typeface is Times New Roman, with italics used for captions. The entire book is set in all-lowercase letters.
