Urbanising the Alps by Fiona Pia
In this book Fiona Pia analyses in detail different representative cases of high altitude cities (Verbier, Zermatt, Avoriaz, Whistler-Blackcomb, Andermatt, …). The findings of her research define project drivers that lead the author to propose strategies for urban densification and “green” public mobility. The proposed results can be transferred to other Alpine cities and serve as a reflection to solve their contemporary problems.
The editorial design and layout of the book have been done by Swiss architectural office CCHE. With their expertise in the field, they have developed a comparative system of data, diagrams, plans and maps to facilitate the understanding of the different cases studies while highlighting comments and results depicted. The entirety of the book is typeset exclusively with Suisse Int’l, using several weights.
Published by Birkhäuser in 3 languages: French, English and German – this contribution shows the French-language edition, Urbaniser les Alpes. The book has been shortlisted at the Die Schönsten deutschen Bücher 2019 prize.
