Domaine les Castans is an estate in the Occitanie region named after the hamlet it belongs to. After having bought a mansion abandoned for years in the village, Eric André, a young notary, decided to restore this place and develop its vineyard. Part of the mansion will be dedicated to the hosting of events such as weddings, and the other to the care of the vineyard.
Studio Asensò, working in the region in the city of Béziers, was commissioned to develop the identity of the vineyard. The designers chose to take account of the peculiarities of the domain, as it is not only a label but also an event hosting place, full of architectural details. This led to the design of an ornamented C as logotype: the inspiration of the pattern comes from the custom ironwork that you find on the upstairs windows. It was designed in different versions: outline, outline plus solid color, and solid color only. These three versions offer a modulation of the same sign and of the same Pantone color: the orange seems lighter or darker, without using a different tone, which is a nice economical trick. This logotype can also become a pattern, or be used for any communication support as signature. The baseline is set in Woodland Bold fromPangram Pangram, while “Castans“ is in Stratos Medium from Production Type. The former goes together well with the ornamented design of the capital C, while the latter breaks the stylistic homogeneity to bring contemporaneity to the whole. Even though the vineyard is one century old and the mansion even older, its taking over brings a new spirit to this place, which is emphasized through the use of Stratos.
For its first vintage called Renaissance, as an hommage to the legacy of the place, Domaine Les Castans opted for a luxurious label: the logotype is embossed and foil-stamped, with a copper foil on black paper. Now that the Covid crisis is slowly getting under control, the domain will be able to live anew and welcome its visitors with new vintage.
