Their third album in Sweden, but second in the rest of the world, Joyride established Roxette as a real band. Designed by EMI in-house designer/producer Kjell Andersson with help from Roxette. Kjell was very into Futura at this period – here using the Bold in all lowercase –, and considering none of this was made in Photoshop it really is a masterpiece! It was released on vinyl, CD, MC, DCC and MD, with all sleeves being the same except for the cassettes where they cropped it in portrait mode of course.

The logo is actually using Futura Bold; the extra bold weight is heavier.
Right you are, my bad. Thanks for the correction.
I like how they had to use an uppercase J for the joyride part on the album cover art. They probably encountered a problem when they saw that the lowercase j looked like an i since the creator intentionally never put a tail on the j when the font was published in 1927.
Good observation, Emmanuel!
Thanks, Florian,
The logo is actually using Futura No. 2 D Bold.
The liner notes and back cover use a combination of regular, italic, and bold of the Linotype/Adobe cut of Futura.
Oooh! So not a repurposed uppercase J after all. Thanks, Barry – excellent.
Here’s Linotype’s Futura Bold (top) compared to URW’s Futura No. 2 D Bold:
Good one Barry!
