Oder sind es Sterne by Eva Munz

Black Mamba was chosen for the book jacket of Oder sind es Sterne. The debut novel by Eva Munz, a German author living in New York, is set in summer 2001, shortly before 9/11, and brings together the stories of three protagonists in Kabul, Paris, and Los Angeles. It was published by Verlag Antje Kunstmann in February 2021.

Designed by Liudmila Bredikhina at Swiss Typefaces, Black Mamba is a spin-off of the SangBleu series, in particular of its Empire Bold and Sunrise Air styles, with some bonkers letterforms that look electrified, molten, or stirred. Jacket designer Judith Banham of Middlecott Design exclusively used the uppercase which holds the bolder caps, and reverted to SangBleu Empire’s standard caps – which are included as alternates – to tame down the setting a notch. It’s worth noting that none of the shown glyphs are modified: Even S and N look exactly like this in the font.
