The title typeface is Longfellow, which shares some characteristics with Beekman (Farmer, ca. 1895), see e.g. the A. Longfellow was issued in 1897 by the Philadelphia branch of ATF, with many alternates and ligatures. The designer is unknown. Its name is probably a reverence to Henry W. Longfellow, and might have been chosen to hint at the condensed qualities.

In the 1970s, Longfellow was adopted for phototype and shown as Twiggy [Hollenstein 1974], as Zobel [Typeshop c. 1977], and as Longfellow [Photo-Lettering’s Typefolio, 1979]. In 1994, Dave Farey of Panache Graphics made a digitization.
