Paris based graphic design studio Zaina, composed of Patrice Barnabé and Martí Palau, chose Selva to typeset the newspaper-shaped publication Venus Variations.
The work of Céline Bodin questions the notions of gender, femininity and the standard of ideal beauty within Western culture. Through photographs and writings, Venus Variations: A Contemporary Excavation explores the cult of nudity and reimagines the legacy of historical representations of the Greek and Roman goddess of love and fertility.
The publication accompanies her presentation at Photo London fair within Purdy Hicks gallery space. The large broadsheet format and structured layout are inspired by the first pamphlets of archaeological societies. The typography, with its classical calligraphic influence, further references this aesthetic.
