Design studio Daniel & Andrew (Instagram) designed the visual identity and exhibition graphics for The Modern Idol. Henry Moore in the Eastern Bloc (Romanian: Idolul Modern. Henry Moore în Blocul Răsăritean) at the National Museum of Art in Bucharest, Romania. They used Hofmann by Nguyen Gobber for the titles in the design of the poster series and within the exhibition setting itself. Hofmann’s peculiar shapes provide a suiting visual reference to the formal qualities of Henry Moore’s sculptures. The expressive display typeface was combined with the highly functional, bread-and-butter type Suisse Int’l by Swiss Typefaces.
The exhibition was developed by The National Museum of Art of Romania and The Institute of the Present. On the museum’s website, they write: “Conceived in a documentary format, the exhibition proposes a contextualisation of the Henry Moore exhibition taken on tour to Bucharest, Bratislava, Prague and Budapest in 1966–67. The exhibition is a collective research project, being initiated by art historians Alina Șerban (Bucharest), Daniel Véri (Budapest) and Lujza Kotočová (Prague) and contains a series of interviews with witnesses of the exhibition in Romania, the Czech Republic and Hungary.”
