We Are More was a public art campaign celebrating the resilience and range of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. It was first shown on digital billboards and street furniture across 120 locations in New York’s Times Square district and around the district of Boston. Later the campaign expanded and could be seen around the whole country. It gave the AAPI community a powerful voice, responding to the stereotyping, harassment, and violence that has become increasingly severe amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
The art initiative was created by the multidisciplinary artist, educator, and activist Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya. She designed forty distinct artworks and designs for the campaign and chose to work with the typefaces Monopol by Nguyen Gobber and Aktiv Grotesk in Extended XBold by Dalton Maag along her colorful illustrations.
