“McQueen drives Porsche” poster

A late addition to the series of Porsche posters using Folio, designed in May 1970 by Erich Strenger. It features actor Steve McQueen, who starred in Bullitt in 1968 (in a Ford Mustang). In 1971, moviegoers would see him as Michael Delaney, race driver for the team Porsche in Le Mans.

While “McQueen” and “Porsche” are set in caps from Folio breit halbfett (Medium Extended) and the list of victories in the breit mager (Extended) – with the alternate straight-legged R – “drives” is something else, possibly Akzidenz-Grotesk Extended.

  1. The Galt Toys identity by Ken Garland & Associates is another prominent use of Folio Medium Extended from around the same time. This catalog cover from 1969/1970 additionally has a similar color palette as Porsche’s McQueen poster:
