Poster (80×48 cm) for a show by artist Alexander Calder (1898–1976) at Galerie Maeght in Paris. Neo Prisma (Mecanorma, 1972) probably was picked to echo the concentric circles in the artwork. It’s a color lithograph titled The Triangles and Spirals, printed in an edition of 150 copies in 1973. According to Nicola Russo, the typeface’s designer, the show took place in the same year.
The gallery’s name is set in Handel Gothic (Facsimile Fonts, 1965), which was available for dry transfer lettering from Mecanorma, too. Started in 1946 by Aimé Maeght, the gallery became Calder’s exclusive Parisian dealer in 1950.
The poster is signed “Maeght Editeur – Art Paris” in the bottom left corner.
