A rare sighting of Belden on the cover of Metaphysics: An Introduction, published in 1976 in the Dickenson Series In Philosophy. The cover was designed by A. Marshall Licht, a Californian designer who was active in the 1970s and 1980s – see his book jackets for A Preface to Philosophy (1975) and Contemporary Irish Poetry: An Anthology (1980). Licht founded Design Element in Los Angeles in 1985.

Belden was shown in a Lettergraphics ad in U&lc vol. 1, no. 3 from 1974, without design credits. It’s a constructivist design with slot-like counters and partly rounded corners. Turtle (Letraset, 1971) is a bit related, albeit much rounder and organic-looking. Berkmire AOE (Astigmatic, 2006) is a digitization of Belden that includes the original alternates and expands the character set.
