Promotional poster for Elton John’s 1981 albumThe Fox, released by Geffen Records. The singer (shot by photographer Terry O’Neill) is shown as if broadcasted via a 1950s Philco Predicta TV set as part of a not so inviting all blue interior with metal frame furniture and a stuffed fox (all from Fat Chance, Hollywood). The setup was photographed by Eric Blum, under art direction of Richard Seireeni.
The typography on the poster and the album artwork is set in italics from ITC Fenice, designed four years before by Aldo Novarese and released by Berthold in three weights. In 1980, the typeface family was made available from ITC with addition of a few extreme weights plus italics.
