Thyssen Boetticher elevator machine room sign
This sign for the machine room of a Spanish elevator from the 1990s is a showcase of sans-serifs from the 20th century.
The wordmark of the now defunct Thyssen conglomerate was set in Univers (1957). However, the Spanish subsidiary, Thyssen Boetticher, used Aldo Novarese’s Eurostile Bold Extended to differentiate itself.
The words Cuarto de maquinaria del ascensor (“elevator machine room”) and the notice Se prohíbe la entrada a toda persona ajena al servicio (“entry allowed to service personnel only”) are typeset in Monotype Grotesque, which first appeared in 1926.
The word Peligro (“danger”) and the space for the phone number and dealer info use Helvetica.
A partially destroyed sticker from the successor company thyssenkrupp uses FF DIN for contact info and Trade Gothic for secondary text.
