Poster for the 1980 edition of the Avant Garde Festival of New York, held at the Passenger Ship Terminal in New York City. The festival was founded in 1963 by Avant Garde cellist and performance artist, Charlotte Moorman. The poster is credited to designer Jim McWilliams, who was the festival’s official graphic designer and also an Avant Garde performer and composer.
The poster is set entirely in Trump-Mediäval, with a field of very loosely-spaced smaller type spanning the lower half of the composition, and the large display type using the less-common extrabold “fett” weight of the family.
