Visual identity for Leslie Jordan’s studio album of traditional country hymns, including duets with the likes of Dolly Parton, Eddie Vedder and Chris Stapleton.
Visual identity designed in house at Platoon Records. Album cover, packaging and song visuals are set in my Oakley. The title lettering was designed by me, Mark van Leeuwen, and was derived from the same typeface.
Oakley was not created in April 2022; it was released in April 2022. Typefaces are often being put to use before they are officially released and made available to others. Typically such beta users include the type designer themselves, the original client (when it’s about a custom typeface that later gets turned into a retail release after the period of exclusivity is over), or trusted designer colleagues. As mentioned in the article, Mark van Leeuwen, the designer of Oakley, was involved in the design of this album. Our tag for these cases is “pre-release uses”, and it’s applied here.
