In 2021, Julien Lelièvre conceived the editorial and graphic design for Cahu’s brand book. Based in Paris, Cahu (stylized as CAHU and pronounced “Ca-ew” is a line of designer bags and PVC accessories, founded by Clémence Cahu.
Except for the logotype in geometric caps, all text in the book is set in a single bold weight of Signal – and, with the exception of the credits at the end, in a single font size. The sole means of emphasis is the use of all caps for headings and titles. With this typographic restraint, Lelièvre establishes a clean and stylish look, and leaves the stage to the images. These present the products, but also provide insights into the manufacturing process and the used materials. Alternating between different sizes from full spread to single page and smaller, sometimes bleeding off the edges and sometimes with small margins, the arrangement of the photography creates a pulsating rhythm across the book.
The bilingual publication (French and English) includes texts by Lily Templeton & Joshua Phillips. Photography by Anouk Marty, Ugo Richard, Antoine And Charlie, Lara Giliberto, Jean Daniel Lorieux, Hugo Denis-Queinec, Thibault Della Gaspera, Charly Gosp, Cho Gi Seok, and Philippe Lacombe.
