First edition of Jerry Bledsoe’s book about early stock car racing, published by Doubleday in 1975. From Wikipedia:
The book revolves around the 1972 Southern 500 weekend at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, SC, with historical pieces and driver interviews in between.
On the jacket, ITC Avant Garde Gothic is used in bold caps, right-aligned, more or less with one word per line, featuring several of its alternates and ligatures, with hanging punctuation. The blurred stripes, together with glyphs like the left-leaning W, create a topical motion effect.
