The fonts in use at the Fort Worth Water Gardens are the Black and Light weights of Bodega Sans, an Art Deco typeface designed by Greg Thompson and released in 1990. Some of the signs use the stylistic alternates with round shapes. The boards with bilingual texts (in English and Spanish) additionally use Futura.

The Water Gardens were built in 1974. They are located on the south end of downtown Fort Worth between Houston and Commerce Streets near the Fort Worth Convention Center. Designed by architects Philip Johnson and John Burgee, they were dedicated to the City of Fort Worth by the Amon G. Carter Foundation.

The Water Gardens were used for the final scene in the 1976 film Logan’s Run.

  1. Thank you, Chris!

Chances are the signs date from around March 2007, when the park reopened after renovations. The earliest dated pic with Bodega Sans that I found on Flickr was taken in August 2007.

  2. Excellent research. This makes much sense. Now I see Bodega Sans everywhere!

I appreciate the website. So much fun.
