Ashes, Ashes is a science fiction novel written by French author René Barjavel (1911–1985). It was first published in 1943 by Éditions Denoël under the title Ravage. Damon Knight provided the English translation. This mass market paperback was published in 1969 by Curtis Books, an imprint of the Modern Literary Editions Publishing Company, New York, in arrangement with Doubleday & Company.

The extrawide octogonal caps used for the title are from Octic Extended. Originally made in wood and shown by William H. Page & Co in 1871, the design was adopted for phototype by VGC in 1967, as part of the T.J. Lyons Antique Type Collection, Volume I.

The sans used for the smaller text is Linotype’s Trade Gothic Extended. It’s distinguished from Intertype’s News Gothic Extended by a few small details, like the design of the numerals 2 and 5 in the bold weight. The blurb on the back cover is set in Akzidenz-Grotesk extra.
