Mona Hatoum: Impenetrable was designed for an editorial design workshop supervised and directed by Montasser Drissi at ESAV Marrakech.

Mona Hatoum is a Palestinian artist known for her thought-provoking installations and performances that address political and social issues. She uses everyday objects to create works that challenge viewers’ perceptions and encourage reflections. The book compiles a small portion of her artistic career, including interviews, essays, and a few of her works of art. The aesthetic of these last is significantly minimalist, with a strong focus on textures and materials.

For a fairly massive format book, I had the chance to experiment with a variety of automated content mechanisms to save time and enable greater editorial exploration motivated by the content itself. With Montasser Drissi’s meticulous guidance, I was able to select the layouts that most effectively conveyed my intentions and resonated well with Mona’s artworks.
