  1. Alberto Romanos of Branding with Type wrote in and kindly provided additional information:

Although the original font was ITC Novarese indeed, we modified the weight, serifs, proportions and the lockup about 4 years ago. Since the 2020–2021 campaign, the official logo was the new one I’m referring to.

The agency in charge of the brand update was Twelfthman and I was the typography consultant on the project. We recently were able to publish the case study, see brandingwithtype.com and twelfthman.co

Shown above is a visual comparison of the classic version (top) and the redrawn one. “We evolved ITC Novarese’s original letterforms with sharper wedge serifs inspired by the UCL starball and optimised its weight and proportions for improved on-screen rendering.” —Branding with Type.

Filippos, you credited Design Bridge and Phil Clements for the design. I assume this refers to the classic version from 1992, yes? Since the post shows examples for both the old and the redrawn logo, I adjusted the title and added Alberto Romanos/Branding with Type and TwelfthMan to the design credits. I also added the tags “logo evolution” and “modified typeface”.
