Ray Conniff (1916–2002) started The Singers in 1959. The vocal group comprised twelve women and thirteen men. In the second half of the 1960s and in the early 1970s, several of the easy listening albums released with Columbia Records came with a cover featuring West Behemoth for the name of the bandleader and arranger, always accompanied by a photo of a smiling woman, typically taken by Frank Bez.
