    I love Rail Alphabet and A2-TYPE’s New Rail Alphabet, however I don’t love Rail Alphabet 2 and I really, really want to. I am so relieved that the UK is getting a nationalised rail network again as privatisation in the main has been a complete mess, not least visually.

    It seems to me the main issues are the lowercase r, g and p just reminds me of the old Adobe MM font that used to be the missing font substitute in PDFs. However I’m sure in application it’ll look better and in a few years I’ll be used to it.

    Also worth noting the intro video on GBRTT’s website (above) doesn’t use Rail Alphabet 2 either – typographically that’s all over the place as well.

  2. I too prefer the original Rail Alphabet – it has a stronger, more industrial vibe. The new signs are weaker and lack impact – it’s almost as if the sign makers chose a Light weight by mistake…
