Artists Making Books exhibition at the American Academy in Rome
WS Adapt in use for the exhibition Artists Making Books at the American Academy in Rome, running from September 27 to December 7, 2024. The title of the exhibition is typeset using a custom version designed by Lola Giffard-Bouvier. The designer superimposed two weights of the typeface, then dug into the bolder one. The American Academy describes the project as follows:
Artists Making Books: Pages of Refuge explores the intersection of art, graphic design, publishing, and the physicality of books. Featuring over 100 artist-made books from 1905 to today, the exhibition includes works by Natalia Goncharova, Tristan Tzara, Fortunato Depero, Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, John Baldessari, Sol LeWitt; some contemporary pieces by former AAR Residents like Kara Walker, Jenny Holzer, William Kentridge, including also Rome Prize and Italian Fellows like Ana Mendieta and Tony Cokes, Rochelle Feinstein, Allen Frame, Luca Vitone and Nico Vascellari.
The exhibition was curated by Ilaria Puri Purini, Andrew Heiskell Arts Director, with Sebastian Hierl, Drue Heinz Librarian, Lexi Eberspacher, Programs Associate, and Johanne Affricot, Curator-at-Large. The graphic design was created by Lola Giffard-Bouvier, with exhibition design by Supervoid.
