Montgomery Pousse Cafe with alternating colors for the letter bodies and its triple shadow for the cover of a 1978 disco compilation with songs by Gloria Gaynor, Isaac Hayes, and Roy Ayers, among other artists. “Disco’s greatest hits” is added in italic caps from Helvetica Black.

Cover design by Nanci Nubile, with art direction by Robert L. Heimall. The airbrush art with the wired platform high heels is by Dan Sneberger. The shoes’ striped soles echo the multi-color type treatment.

  1. In 1984, Dutch disco group Digital Emotion released a 12″ titled “Steppin’ Out”. In addition to LCD, the cover design by Fruut uses Pousse Cafe for the title. This has to be a nod to the typography of the compilation cover from 1978, no?
