This just in…
An early example of the wild and wonderful Stromberg Graphic dated to 1966! For The Troggs’s debut US album (originally released as From Nowhere), the little known typeface created by Harvey Stromberg and issued by Photo-lettering is used in reverse for the album’s name and for the B-side’s opening track, “With A Girl Like You”. Along with that, the trailblazing Cooper Black appears as the typeface below the title for additional songs on the album, with Monotype Grotesque for the tracks and Jere Real’s liner notes on the back. An alternate design for the album eliminates Stromberg in favor of Airport Black, except for the band name.

That’s an excellent find! To further narrow down the release date of Stromberg Graphic: the album was advertised in the Billboard issue from August 27, 1966.
The cover was shown already two weeks earlier, in the issue from August 13.
Thanks, Florian! I appreciate the extra research and help, especially ID’ing the additional fonts. I was so excited finding another early use lol, so because of this I decided to somewhat digitize Stromberg, though since I didn’t make it, it would probably be free like Sandana. Currently there are no numbers, and I’m working on kerning.
Forgot to mention that Out of Sight by Maxine Brown displayed how f and x look.
I also forgot to mention my own renditions of Eightway, House Cybernetic and Lucia Shadow, with Lucia (renamed) being the only completely finished one.
Sweet.
I was wondering exactly that: how much of Stromberg Graphic’s glyph set did we cover already? Turns out that between the 5½ documented Uses (not counting the tiny Contur logo) plus the one-line sample and the two album covers you found but didn’t post (yet?), there are an impressive forty different glyphs already:

Not bad!
Thanks to you and the team, I was able to make it Digitally Possible™, though I did have to wing it for Q q and j. I do have three further draft only examples, but if you’d like to contribute instead, they are Black Pearl – self titled (1969), Maxine Brown – Out of Sight (1968), and The Box Tops – Non Stop (1968).
TBH, that’s unlikely to happen. If you think these are worthy additions, bring them on. No obligations, though, and certainly no rush.
Right on then! Will definitely do.
