“It’s called the Internet, the Net or the Matrix. It’s a massive sprawl of personal computers, all linked up and talking to each other. From computer nerds to info-junkies, chat addicts to cultish weirdos, some 40-million people are now 'on-line’ in this incredible global community – and numbers are growing constantly. Is this the future of communication?”

Article from i-D magazine #126, march 1994, foreseeing the future of the Net, illustrated with  creative emoticons that take a bit of time to write down.

“Gay, skate, S&M, techno and graphics groups – even, more disturbingly, fascists – are all connecting on the Net and prefigure a future of easy access for minority groups to posse up and power up. Yet others are talking about darker futures as the big bucks conglomerates roll in  and start to transform the Net into a cash business where the freedoms could be lost.”
