  1. It’s very tempting to gain a bit of prestige and visibility by using references to globally recognized artistic heritage… But I see artworks here, and not insignificant ones at that, for which it would be reasonable to question the rights relating to their representation.
In France, at least, the right of reproduction requires obtaining prior authorization from the author or their heirs before using a protected artwork. Otherwise, one risks prosecution for copyright infringement. A word to the wise…

  2. I confirm.

A quick glance at the GiftArt website validated my initial impression upon seeing this page: the site offers reproductions of numerous famous painters—Cézanne, Kandinsky, Manet, Modigliani, Pissarro, Renoir…—without any mention of reproduction sizes, prices, etc.

And the photos of interiors decorated with framed reproductions are crude montages. In fact, everything appears fake.

Regarding this supposed trade of gifts, given the number of artworks and the legal conditions associated with their reproduction and distribution, it is a completely fraudulent enterprise. At least, about the intention.

So what about the use of those fonts and this graphic design?

Fonts In Use presents itself as an “illustrated encyclopedia,” collaborative and documented with historical and cultural references.

By accepting all contributions indiscriminately, a growing number of works without originality, without heritage significance, are being confused with what constitutes the value and interest of the site.

Perhaps it is time to adopt a more selective approach to the content of F.I.U., in order to maintain its usefulness.
