Temporal Festival
Temporal is a festival dedicated to time-based media that brings together different artistic practices, such as moving image, sound, visual arts, device hacking, sound art, and performance—all of which focus on the durational dimension of the aesthetic experience. The first edition of Temporal took place from July 9 to 12, 2026, at Mira Forum in Porto, Portugal, with a free admission program featuring public performances and educational-creative workshops, concerts, and screenings.
Organized by Juliana Julieta and Sofia Pires, the program proposes to explore transitional and boundary states, where reality takes on an unstable character, in a constant state of flux. They worked collectively with re-re/re: to build a shared world and language, turning thunderous and diverse references into a cohesive, extensive vocabulary.
The graphic designers of re-re/re: created a family of gradients, illustrations, and watercolors, that combine to produce interference and disturbance, emulating instability on an otherwise stable surface. The concept is based on the idea of a phenomenon: recognizable, yet in constant flux, with no fixed form or image. Organic backgrounds simulate an unstable sky—gradations, patches, and color transitions that represent a changing condition. The color palettes draw from atmospheric phenomena, combining colors in varying proportions to suggest two distinct atmospheric moments. The custom illustrations signal towards semi-abstract elements of weather, time, and bodies.
The main typeface, Maroni Condensed by Calame.Bureau, is used here to give the festival a distinct and recognizable face with a blocky and organic feel. The supporting typeface, Garabosse Gaillard·e, designed by members of the Typography Master’s class of EESAB-Rennes (Titouan Collet, Clara Coutanceau, Paul Fleury), is based on facsimiles of Renaissance letterforms, and reproduces the materiality of the printing types on paper.
re:re:/re is a new design practice founded by Eva Gonçalves and Rita Mota, long-time collaborators, based between Lisbon, Porto, and Berlin. Their work ethos explores horizontal hierarchies and collective, shared world-building. The studio works primarily in culture and social projects, developing formats large and small that support and expand the ideas brought to the table.
