Seeing this sort of sloppified junk just makes me sad. If you can’t be bothered to make something yourself, how dare you expect other humans to waste their limited lifetime with your token-excretion?

  2. I usually don’t respond to comments like this but, no, the actual entry here s wrong and I didn’t notice it until your comment. I actually am grateful for it in a way becasue it brought it to my attention. Every single cover so far has been professionally designed by Miblart, a well known book cover designer. Each front and back cover is hand drawn by their assigned designer, sketches are sent to me in stages for approval along the way, and I carefully choose typography that has meaning to the narrative. So I have already reached out to the moderators to clear this up. Nice choice of words by the way, you really went out of your way with that didn’t you? … Ha!

  3. Thanks for your response, Richard. We moderators added the tag “generative AI art” because to us, the cover art exhibits all the characteristics associated with AI output. The comment above suggests that others perceive this similarly.

I’m now reading your stance, and I’m also seeing the statement on Miblart’s website claiming they do “NOT use AI for book cover design.” Not having been involved in the design process, I’ll have to take it at face value. I have removed the contested tag and adjusted the design credit, now mentioning Miblart.

We – the editorial team of Fonts In Use – are discussing how to deal with submissions that are AI-generated, or feature AI-generated art, and where to draw the line. This will include questions of how to tell such submissions apart, and how to treat submissions that look the part.
