Johnny Rodrigues’ number-one hit “Hey mal yo” was the first single made by a Cape Verdean to reach the Dutch charts. On the German release by EMI Electrola, his name is set in Roco, a Letraset face issued in 1973, and the only published typeface design by Collis Clements — musical one-hit wonder meets typographic one.

Clements (1937–2010) was a long-time tutor at the Maidstone College of Art and KIAD. He’s best known for his work for the Post Office, and especially his postage stamp designs. During his time at Design Research Unit (DRU) in the 1960s, he also worked on the new logo and identity for British Rail.
